Electrical Box
A more straightforward brief than the rest of the arm, and a useful one: clean electrical organisation, in a housing that looks like it belongs on the machine. One protective, accessible enclosure per AKE60-8 motor's electronics, designed against direct feedback from the electrical team.
Designing around the electronics
Layout started as quick Onshape sketches with the real component models imported, so the enclosure was sized around the actual boards rather than a guess, and so wire slack, wire length, and connector positions were decisions instead of discoveries.
Aesthetically it borrows the curved geometry already used on the wrist's motor plates, scaled to this part. The arm reads as one machine because its enclosures agree with each other.
Sealed against the desert
Side panels fasten with M3 screws into heat-set inserts embedded in the base, and the box closes completely, with no path for dust or sand to reach the electronics during a field run.
The rear face carries a rectangular cutout so the fuse board and ODrive slide in as a unit, without unsoldering wires. Routing holes direct cables cleanly out to the motors and control systems.
Swapping out the old mounts
This replaced an open-mount system. Old electronics out, fuse board and ODrive in through the rear cutout, bolted down, wires routed through base and sides, lids on with M3 screws.
No resoldering, no rewiring, which is the whole point when the repair is happening in a tent.
